[Did you know?] Roald Dahl

Last time I watched the trailer for the movie ''BFG'' and it reminded me of nice memories. Almost 20 years ago, when I was still at school, my teacher would read us some lines of ''The BFG'' when we were quiet. That's how I discovered Roald Dahl's universe, through the incredible story of Sophie and the BFG... This year we celebrate Roald Dahl's 100th birthday. A good reason to tell you some facts about him...

He was born in Cardiff but his parents were Norwegian. He was named after a famous Norwegian explorer and he would only speak his mother tongue while at home with his 3 sisters.

Roald Dahl wasn't good at scholl not even in writing. When he finished his studies, he went to Canada on a hiking trip before being employed by a petroleum company, living in Kenya and Tanzania then becoming a pilot for the British Army during WWII. / He had 5 children and got married twice.

His first novel is not ''James and the Giant Peach'' but ''The Gremlins'' ! Yes the movie is inspired by it a lot...

And by the way, James almost had his adevntures with a ''Giant Cherry'' and not a peach.

He invented more than 250 new words, almost all of them for ''The BFG''.

Even though he's more known for his children's books, Roald Dahl wrote also for adults... like in Playboy.

He also wrote the screeplays of ''We Only Live Twice'' (James Bond) and ''Chitty Chitty Bang Bang''.

He didn't like ''Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'' (1975) because it was more focused on Willy Wonka than Charlie.

On the 13 of Septembre, schools and libraries in the world celebrate Roald Dahl Day.
